Fresh facts are emerging on why gunmen suspected to be bandits killed the village head of Madaka and 20 others in Niger State.
Madaka community is in Rafi local government area of the state and is rich in gold, talc and other minerals and is the frequent target of bandits but the vigilante group in the area had always repelled them.
It was learnt that the bandits launched an attack on the community market on Thursday evening when the market was in full session, shooting randomly.
Sources hinted that they attacked the village head’s residence near the market area, killing him and 20 others, and abducted scores, set 50 houses, cars and motorcycles ablaze.
A resident who preferred anonymity told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the bandits were stopped a few months ago by the village vigilante corps from rustling cattle and abducting people as they were comprehensively repelled.
