Why Cyber Security Industry Is At Risk — Expert

As cyber security is fast gaining grounds, telecommunication and software quality assurance expert, Babajide Olaitan Muyideen, has identified the future challenges expected in the cyber security industry.

Speaking in an interview, Babajide said several challenges that include AI-powered scams and deepfakes, more convincing impersonation and fraud, supply chain/vendor risk, attackers increasingly enter through third parties. Others are cloud complexity and misconfiguration: as systems move to cloud, visibility gaps grow. Identity-based attacks: SIM swap, account takeover, insider misuse, and MFA fatigue. Critical infrastructure targeting: telecom, power, and finance remain high-value targets. Skills shortage and burnout: demand is growing faster than talent supply. Privacy and compliance complexity: evolving regulations and cross-border data concerns are becoming more urgent.

According to him, cyber security was moving from being an IT issue to being an economic stability and national resilience issue. Telecom readiness is not a theory—it’s capacity you can measure, improve, and defend. When we strengthen strategy, systems, and execution, we reduce downtime, reduce fraud, and protect national trust.

The telecom expert said he was excited about AI-driven security and operations—using analytics and automation to detect fraud and anomalies faster than humans can at telecom scale. “As networks grow more complex, AI becomes important for identifying threats early and reducing downtime. A close second is 5G network slicing, because it enables dedicated “secure lanes” for critical services—like emergency response, financial services, and utilities—where both performance and security standards can be clearly defined. The future is networks that can defend themselves in real time—because attackers are already moving in real time,” he noted.
