An entrepreneur, Kudirat Babasule, popular known as Kuddy Dynasty, has highlighted why young women should prioritise learning a skill.

According to her, learning a skill is more than just a pathway to a job, it’s a journey towards empowerment, independence, and personal growth.

She explained that knowing social media marketing and content creation has not only given her financial independence but has also been a platform for her to inspire and empower others as every post and every campaign has become a testament to the power of skills and the doors they can open.

Kuddy Dynasty further emphasised that whether it’s coding, cooking, crafting, or writing, the skills young women acquire today will shape their futures in profound ways and that every young woman out there needs to seize the opportunity to learn a skill and watch as doors of possibility will swing wide open.

She said, “To every young woman out there: embrace the opportunity to learn a skill. The world is yours to shape. As I scroll through the comments on my latest post, I’m reminded of my journey from an aspiring influencer to a successful entrepreneur. Today, I want to share why young Nigerian women must embrace skill acquisition and how it can change lives. Growing up, I always had big dreams. But like many, I faced the harsh realities of limited job opportunities and economic uncertainty. My breakthrough came when I decided to dive into social media marketing and content creation. It wasn’t an easy path – late nights, countless tutorials, and much trial and error. However, the skills I acquired turned my passion into a profession, allowing me to connect with a global audience and inspire others.

“One of the reasons young women should prioritize learning a skill is for financial independence and economic empowerment. Consider Sarah Breedlove, better known as Madam C.J. Walker. Born to former slaves, she became America’s first female self-made millionaire by developing and marketing a line of beauty products for black women. Her story exemplifies how skill mastery can lead to entrepreneurial success and financial independence. Today, platforms like Etsy and YouTube have enabled countless young women to turn hobbies and skills into lucrative careers. From crafting handmade jewelry to creating digital content, the ability to monetize a skill has never been more accessible.

“Another reason is that of adaptability and resilience. The world is evolving rapidly, and traditional jobs are no longer guaranteed. Skills training offers the flexibility to adapt to changing market needs. For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many young women who had learned digital skills were able to pivot to remote work or start online businesses, showcasing remarkable resilience.

“Thirdly is empowerment and confidence. Learning a skill cultivates a sense of achievement and self-worth. It builds confidence, knowing that you can create, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to society. This confidence extends beyond the workplace, enriching personal life and community engagement. Also, community impact is another reason. When young women learn and master skills, they often become role models and mentors in their communities. This has a ripple effect, inspiring other girls to pursue skill acquisition, thereby fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.”
