Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers (RANAO) Association of Nigeria has said tackling insurgency is one of the most difficult things to do, owing to the fact that the insurgents are our own people.
This is even as the retired officers averred that tackling insurgency will require a well thought out tactics, political will and precise rules of engagement.
Addressing journalists at a press conference as part of activities of the ongoing 35th National Annual General Meeting (NAGM) of the association, the national president of the association, Major General Abdulhafeez Gbadegose (rtd) said as a retired officers with experience, they have severally offered their advice to relevant security agencies on how best to handle the insurgency situations
“Insurgency is the most difficult thing to tackle because those involved are our people, so every action must be well thought out.
“The rules of engagement must be well defined because collateral damage must be minimal and that will require technology and political will from the government,” he stressed.
The retired general disclosed that their association presently has about 28 functional state chapters across the country and are committed to first and foremost addressing members welfare and challenges.
He said the association has been able to foster cordial and mutual relationships between the retired and serving officers.
