Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM), seeks applications for teaching and non-teaching positions in the institution’s colleges.

The registrar, Dr John Ujo David, said the recruitment drive is aimed at filling existing vacancies with competent personnel to acualise the university’s mandate.

David said, “Our university has a responsibility to drive innovation and academic excellence, particularly in agriculture and related fields, to accelerate food production and national development.

“We are looking for exceptional scholars and professionals who share in this vision and are ready to join our journey,” the registrar said.

The available teaching positions range from professors and associate professors to lecturers, assistant lecturers, and graduate assistants.

He said the vacancies exist in colleges such as agronomy, agricultural economics and extension, animal sciences, forestry and fisheries, food technology and human ecology, veterinary medicine, biological sciences, physical sciences and engineering.

Positions are open in the College of Agronomy in departments such as crop production, plant breeding and seed science and soil science.

In the College of Animal Sciences, departments such as animal production, animal nutrition, and animal breeding and physiology are recruiting.

“We are particularly interested in applicants with strong research backgrounds and evidence of publications in reputable journals,” the registrar added.

Non-teaching staff positions have also been advertised. These include vacancies for pharmacists, nursing officers, medical laboratory scientists, accountants, administrative officers, ICT technologists and safety officers.

“This recruitment is not limited to academic staff; we equally value professionals in critical support roles who ensure the university system runs smoothly,” David noted.

Applicants are expected to meet general requirements such as possession of relevant academic and professional qualifications, computer literacy, and evidence of completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) where applicable.

He said: “We encourage candidates who are awaiting results not to apply at this time, as only complete applications will be considered,” the Registrar said.

The conditions of service, according to the registrar, remain consistent with the approved salary structure for federal universities in Nigeria.

Interested candidates are required to submit five copies of their applications and curriculum vitae in sealed envelopes addressed to the Registrar, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi. The position applied for should be clearly indicated on the left-hand corner of the envelope.

In addition, three referees are expected to send confidential reports directly to the registrar. “Applications and supporting documents must reach the university not later than four weeks from the date of this publication,” David said.
