Nigeria has executed BASAs with 90 countries, but only 39 of these agreements are currently active.
The Minister of viation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has disclosed the possibility of the federal government reviewing all BASAs with foreign countries.
Nigeria should review its Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) with foreign countries to boost its aviation industry. By reviewing the BASAs, the government can identify areas that need improvement and renegotiate terms that are not favourable to the country.
This can lead to increased air traffic, which can boost the economy and create job opportunities. Additionally, by urging airlines to utilise their BASA routes, the government can reduce airfare prices and encourage passenger patronage. This can lead to increased revenue for airlines and the government. Overall, reviewing BASAs can help Nigeria’s aviation industry operate profitably and sustainably while holding local airline operators to the highest international standards.
