Because if you’re a purist for ancient things then Fort Adelaide is the way to go. It was built on a hill between 1830 and 1840 and is also known as La Citadelle. You can immerse yourself in activities at this old stone fortress built by the British to defend the city. Though it now provides shops and acts as an event centre, its historic background still lingers. It also offers a remarkable view of the city centre and the harbour.
Because, while Port Louis is not really a beach destination, you can still find very good beaches about 15 to 20 minutes north in the Trou aux Biches, a coastal village known for its white sandy beach and turquoise lagoon. Okay, you’re thinking snorkelling right? You’d better be because it’s popular here! You can also enjoy various water sports at this location. It is known to be one of the best beaches in Mauritius so get ready! Another exceptional beach is Mont Choisy, which is nearby.
Because you can eat your meals at the popular Wapalapam restaurant, it is a courtyard-like restaurant providing the best of indian ocean inspired food. Here you will get fresh seafood, burgers, homemade ice cream and of course spicy curries among other dishes. There are lots of other restaurants to try! And we have already mentioned street food. Just don’t leave Port Louis without tasting the city’s traditional cuisine.
