The north was lagging behind in the just concluded voter’s registration exercise that was organized by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that was why Kaduna State Government declared two work-free days to enable civil servants to register.
It will be recalled that the state government declared 27th and 28th July as public holiday, to enable more citizens to complete their voter registration exercise, which ended last Sunday.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai who gave the explanation in a live media chat, noted that although Kaduna state is the first in online registration in the north, Kano state was highest in physical registration.
El-Rufai had promised that INEC officials will go round the entire wards in Kaduna state, adding that the Commissioner of Police had promised to give adequate security for the exercise.
He pointed out that the days of snatching ballot boxes or multiple voting are over because of the improved technology which INEC is deploying for the coming election.
The governor stated that election results are now electronically transmitted to INEC server when they are collated from polling units, adding that ‘’election results will be cancelled where there is a vote higher than the number of registered voters.’’
El-Rufai advised the electorate not to vote for the party that will reverse the gains that the APC government has recorded in Kaduna state, adding that doing so will enthrone an era of thuggery, pilfering of state resources and dragging the state backwards.
