Why We Want To Meet Former House Members – Delta Speaker

The speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, (DSHA), Hon Dennis Guwor, has announced a special session with current lawmakers and former members of the State Assembly, referred to as Non-Sitting Members of the House.

Expected attendees include the state governor and former speaker, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and other former speakers, including Hon Emmanuel Okoro, Hon Kent Omatsone, Hon Martins Okonta, Hon Victor Ochei, Hon Monday Iguana, Hon Basil Ganagana, Hon Frank Enekorogha, Hon Peter Onwusanya and Hon Olise Imegwu.

The speaker who announced the planned event during plenary of the House, said the session will take place in Asaba, the state capital.

The chief press secretary to the Speaker, Mr Nkem Nwaeke while reacting to the innovative and unprecedented initiative, highlighted the significance of the special session and its potential impact on the state legislature, governance and development.

“The Speaker’s visionary leadership is evident in initiating this special session with former members of the House. This gesture underscores his commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive legislative environment.”

The CPS maintained that the session promises to leverage the wealth of experience and expertise of former lawmakers as well as provide valuable insights that will shape the future of Delta State.

Nwaeke stated further that the initiative portends a strengthened legislature, better equipped to tackle the state’s development challenges and promote peace, unity and good governance in the state.

“Mr Speaker has always demonstrated his commitment and dedication to bridging the gap between all stakeholders in the state legislature, ensuring continuity and progress in governance.

“It is anticipated that this collaboration with former members will yield innovative ideas, informed policy decisions, and ultimately, contribute to the socio-economic growth and prosperity of Delta state”, the CPS emphasized.

The 5-man Committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker Hon Arthur Akpowowo, will oversee the special parley.

Other members include Hon Austin Uroye, Perkins Umukoro, Festus Utuama, and Bridget Anyafulu, with deputy clerk, Administration, Mr Smart Edoge, serving as secretary.
