Central Bank of Nigeria says aside it’s roles of manage the external reserves of the country, promote monetary stability and a sound financial environment and as well as act as a banker of last resort and financial adviser to the federal government, it also has the social responsibility to encourage golf to people because of the discipline that it brings and spirit of self management of be a good golfer.

Deputy governor in-charge of operation of the Apex Bank, Adebisi Shonubi, stated this shortly after tee-off the 15th CBN Governor’s Cup Golf tournament at the IBB International Golf and Country Club Abuja on Saturday.

He said, the Bank has over the years engaged in the sponsorship of the competition to create ambiance of funfair for staff and the people it interact with.

“We are here to have fun, relax, celebrate golf and start Christmas season at the IBB International Golf and Country Club.

This is an event that the Bank sponsor every year and this is the 2022 edition .

“We encourage golf to people at the Central Bank and the people we interact with because of the discipline that it brings, the commitment it demand and the spirit of self management that come from be a good golfer,” he said.

No fewer than 120 golfers are competing for various prizes in different categories at the one day event on a stroke play, shotgun format, where all competing golfers will tee off simultaneously from different points on the golf course and finish about the same time.

“For golfers, participating and doing well and have the bragging rights over your colleagues that you played well is more than enough. Yes, there are trophies and few other things that may be the top three in each category will get but the real joy is looking at your friend and say yes I beat you this time or I play better on this hole and that is a memory that we love to encourage and carry along.

“I expect people to have fun and when we finish I expect to hear a lot shouting among friends saying interesting fun that they went they through and threatening that in the next one year when the practice are done well they would be back here for the 2023 edition of the Governor’s Cup,” Shonubi added.
