People living with disabilities (PLWD) in Kwara State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Kwara State government and security agencies to effect the immediate release of an abducted widow and their member, Mrs Mosunmola Adekunle.

The widow was among the eight church worshippers abducted by bandits on March 12, 2026 in Omugo community, Ifelodun local government area.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin yesterday, the founder of Jibore Impeccable Foundation, Ilorin, Mrs Joy Bolarin, lamented that five of the eight victims abducted alongside Adekunle had been reported dead in captivity, adding that the widow has seven children at home without care.

Bolarin said in a situation where the abduction victim got lucky escape or released by her abductors, “she would not be able to say where she is going or hear what people say for her to get home safely.”

She called on relevant authorities to improve the security situation in parts of the state and the country at large.

“In February this year, one Ademola Onijala, an amputee was abducted in Olla community, in the Isin local government. He was later killed by his abductors, leaving behind a young wife and four children.

“I established a school of over 30 years in Oro Ago, Ifelodun local government. The Jibore School is closed now due to banditry. The school was established because of discrimination against disabled persons. One can imagine what happens to life of the students, our future leaders while insecurity persisted,” she stated.

Bolarin advocated monthly salary for displaced disabled people, saying the people suffered emotional and financial damage.

In her remark, the representative of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mercy Ajayi  said that over 390 PLWDs have been reported killed by bandits while over 200 PLWDs are currently in custody of their abductors across the country.

Ajayi said that insecurity affects PLWD more that any other persons, “because it’s difficult for them to access safety, health care, education, and their livelihood in general.”

She called on governments and relevant stakeholders to place more consideration on PLWDs on issue of insecurity.

“Human rights are not privileges, but fundamental, regardless of disabilities,” she said .
