Wife of the Calabar killer cop, Inspector Effiong Bassey, who went berserk on Sunday and opened fire on passersby, has shut down her provision shop for fear of reprisal attacks by families of the deceased.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the son of the deceased, who died as a result of gunfire victims, had vowed to retaliate against the mother’s death.
LEADERSHIP also gathered that the son of the deceased, who is a resident of Bayside Street, Calabar South local government area in Cross River State, had threatened that he would set ablaze Atakpa Divisional Police Headquarters, Calabar Road, where Inspector Bassey, who shot his mother was serving, in retaliation for his mother’s death.
One of the Watt Market traders stated that the fear of reprisal attack might be responsible for the closure of one of the lanes of Calabar Road from the Total Filling Station to the roundabout. This situation has forced motorists to use one of the usable lanes by the Atakpa Police Headquarters.
A source, Mr Precious Ekong, stated that utterances about retaliation by the deceased son might be responsible for mounting several guards around that axis 24 hours to wade off any attack by hoodlums masquerading as friends or families of the victims.
A neighbour who preferred anonymity told LEADERSHIP that the killer cop, during one of his moments of rage, scattered the shop and threw the items on the road, with vehicles running over some of the items.
When LEADERSHIP visited the residence of the deceased in Calabar South, the son of the deceased, Emmanuel, was seen lying on the veranda of their apartment while the two daughters were doing their homework, oblivious of the whereabouts of their father and what had befallen them.
Inspector Juliana returned from work about 4:30 p.m., organised a late lunch for her kids, and intermittently slipped into deep thoughts and reflections on what had befallen her and her children.
Neighbours described the killer cop as a sadist and abuser who takes delight in beating up children.
