Wife, Son Kill Husband, Grandfather In Borno

Borno State Police Command has arrested 40-year-old Lydia Aji for killing her husband, Aji Makinta, during a brawl at their home in Kautikari village of Chibok in the Chibok local government area of the state.

The police have also arrested one Usakahyel Adamu for killing his grandfather, a 90-year-old Yakubu Ibrahim, with a hoe at Paga Gusi Village in Kwaya-Kusar local government area of the state.

They were paraded yesterday alongside 12 other suspects for crimes ranging from burglary and vandalism to possession of illicit drugs at the police headquarters in Maiduguri.

The state’s police public relations officer (PPRO), ASP Nahum Daso, said the Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has recorded significant achievements worthy of mentioning.

He said, “ On the 7th July, 2024 at about 1600HRS, one Adamu Yakubu of Paga Gusi Village Kwaya – Kussar L.G.A reported at Kwaya Kusar Police Station that, on the same date at about 1400HRS his son one Usakahyel Adamu ‘M’ 24yrs used a hoe and hit his grandfather, one Yakubu Ibrahim aged 90yrs on his head, as a result, he sustained severe injury and died on the spot, the investigation further revealed that the said Usakahyel had an altercation with his grandfather on an allegation that his grandfather was insulting him and pushing him without any reasonable cause.

“The suspect has been arrested, and the hoe was recovered and registered as exhibit. Suspect will be charged to DPP for legal advice and prosecution.

“On the 4th of July, 2024 at about 0430HRS, one Bulama Mulikabu of Kautikari Village Chibok LGA reported at Chibok Police station that on the same date at about 0700HRS one Lydia Aji aged 40yrs and her husband, one Aji Makinta had a violent fight which resulted to the wife Lydia Aji striking her husband on his head with an axe and he died on the spot.

“Investigation further revealed that the couples had a misunderstanding about their daughter, Rachael Aji, 13 years old, who stole a goat and sold it to an unknown person.

The angry father then asked them to leave his house. The case is still under investigation.”

He said the police investigation further revealed that the syndicate specialises in vandalising public infrastructures and shopbreaking within and around Maiduguri Metropolis, adding that the case will be charged to court after the investigation.

He said,” On the 16th of July, 2024, at about 1000HRS, acting on credible information, one Manda Usman, aged 23, of Mashidmami Sulumri area, was arrested in possession of a stolen water Sumo pump.
