Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has debunked reports on social media that he ordered the removal of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flags from Government House, Port Harcourt.
This is as the State publicity secretary of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senibo Chris Finebone, confirmed his defection from the party to the PDP.
The social media was awash early Friday morning with picture of Finebone in company of the Rivers State governor, Wike, PDP governorship candidate, Siminalaye Fubara, and former APC chairman, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, during a visit to the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt earlier on Thursday night.
Wike, who spoke on Thursday night in Port Harcourt, the state capital, while receiving Finebone and Ikanya, said: “You can imagine the kind of fake news people bandy about. I don’t waste my time on such falsehood.”
Responding to to comments made by the former APC spokesman, the governor promised to award the contract for the construction of Opobo Ring Road before he leaves office in 2023.
He said: “I will award the contract for the Opobo Ring Road and ensure that the money to pay is made available before I leave office in May 2023.
“It is God that has made your son to be the governorship candidate of our party. The same God will make him win to His glory. I did not plan it but God did it. Opobo people should be thanking God for his mercies.”
Confirming his defection to the ruling PDP, Finebone wrote on his official Facebook page; “Sim Fubara is my brother; know it and know peace.”
