Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has named a newly constructed road in the Kwali area council of the FCT, after a popular Nigerian potter, ceramicist and educator, Ladi Dosei Kwali, who was born in the village of Kwali in the Gwari region.
Wike, who made this pronouncement yesterday during the commissioning of the 3.2-kilometre Arterial Road and Bridge at Shagari/Satellite Quarters in the area council, described Ms Kwali as someone who used her creativity to bring fame, not only to the FCT but the entire nation.
He said the decision was to honour the popular Nigerian who, in her own way, contributed to the development of Abuja and that charity must begin at home.
“What you see today is the renewed hope agenda we are discussing. I am sure most of you must have lost hope, that you take your faith in your hand since no government will want you to feel their impact.
“So, you had to manage and see how you can fend for your people, but Mr President has said that you should not lose hope, that he is here to bring your hope back.
“What he has done on this road today shows that hope is returning to our people. It is not about the party; it is about Nigerians. It is about you, Abuja people, and Kwali people.
“Because there is no one particular party that would use this road. If you do not belong to any particular party, you must use this road. That is what is important to Mr President; it does not matter where you belong. His ambition and vision is to make Nigerians hope come back,” he said.
The minister further said that his administration will construct one more road in the Kwali area council, which they will flag off soon, and another one is under construction in their area.
“So, Kwali will have only three roads this year. Mr. President also asked me when this road was constructed and what the illumination was for providing security; I said it was not part of it. So he directed me to ensure solar light is provided on this road.
“That is why we are saying that if you have the right LEADERSHIP, you will get good results, it does not matter where you come from. What matters is that this person is committed. I am telling you that the President is committed to changing the lives of all of us and giving us hope that was lost,” he said.
