Wike Vows Relentless Projects Ahead Of Abuja’s 50th Anniversary

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed the commitment of the administration to continued development of infrastructures across Abuja ahead of FCT’s 50th anniversary in 2026.

Wike said the recent commissioning of projects was only a milestone to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office, not the end of the administration’s efforts.

The Minister gave the assurance on Monday morning during a media parley with journalists in Abuja, during which he outlined several ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of the FCT.

“Well, having commissioned does not mean our work has ended. What we commissioned is to celebrate the second year of Mr. President in office. There’s still more work to be done,” Wike stated.

He noted that several critical infrastructure projects, including major roads and housing developments are currently in the works.

“We expect that after some time, we will flag off other projects that will have positive impacts on Abuja people. We have been working on the road from Pai to Gomani, we have the Dei-Dei Road, we have the Karsana Road, the Court of Appeal Abuja Division, the Justices’ Quarters, the Board of Benchers Annex,” he listed.

Wike also revealed progress made on housing projects for legal institutions. “We believe that before the end of this year, we will have completed flats for the Nigerian Law School, Abuja,” he said, adding that efforts were being intensified in other sectors, including water provision and rural electrification.

“We have so many other things to be done, like the royal water which will be concentrated in Kubwa, Karu and part of Bwari,” he said.

In anticipation of Abuja’s 50th anniversary in February 2026, the minister said the administration is gearing up for a landmark celebration.

He also recalled President Tinubu’s efforts to secure technological partnerships to enhance city infrastructure. “We remember when Mr. President travelled to China, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with people to provide street lights and security devices and to maintain them for four to five years without us going back to say it’s been vandalised,” Wike said, adding that rural electrification with solar power was also on the agenda.

Highlighting his personal commitment to the transformation agenda, the minister disclosed that he has been working non-stop since the last commissioning event.

“For your information, I have not rested, I have not taken any break, since after the commissioning, two weeks, 16 good days. I don’t know how many people would have survived that. But I will find time to rest,” he said.

Wike affirmed that “the work is endless” and assured Abuja residents that the FCT Administration remains focused on building a capital city befitting of its status as the nation’s centre of unity.
