WOLMEI Unveils Plans For Women’s Empowerment Centre

The President and Founder of the Women of Like Minds Empowerment Initiative (WOLMEI), Mrs Lauretta Achudume, has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to advancing women’s empowerment, education, economic inclusion, and social development as it marked its 13th anniversary celebration in Abuja.

Speaking at the anniversary celebration on Saturday in Abuja, Achudume described the milestone as more than a celebration of longevity, noting that it marked 13 years of service, resilience, transformation, and impact across communities in Nigeria.

“Today is not merely a celebration of years. It is a celebration of impact, resilience, service, and the collective determination of women and men who have chosen to make a difference in the lives of others,” she said.

The founder expressed gratitude to God, members, volunteers, donors, development partners, and supporters for their contributions that have sustained the organisation since its establishment in 2013.

According to her, WOLMEI was founded on a vision to empower women, uplift families, support vulnerable groups, and create opportunities that enable communities to thrive.

Reflecting on the organisation’s achievements, Achudume said thousands of women have transitioned from dependence to self-reliance through entrepreneurship and skills-acquisition programmes. At the same time, young girls have benefited from educational support and mentorship initiatives.

The WOLMEI founder also announced plans to establish a dedicated Women’s Centre to expand empowerment programmes and skills development initiatives.

“We’ll be establishing the Women’s Centre where we will empower women, empower children, and provide skills acquisition opportunities alongside several programmes and projects that will run within the centre,” she disclosed.

As part of activities marking the anniversary, the organisation donated educational and welfare materials to pupils of the FCT School for the Blind in Jabi, Abuja. The items include Braille machines, Braille paper, typewriters, mobility canes, A4 paper, food supplies, and other educational resources.

She revealed that the intervention followed a needs assessment conducted by the organisation to identify the institution’s most pressing needs.

In addition, several women were empowered with support packages during the anniversary celebration as part of WOLMEI’s continued commitment to economic empowerment.

The school’s Head Boy, Paul Thomas, said they are grateful for the gift they have received. “We are really excited about what has been given to us. Things like slate and stylus, Braille paper, and mobility canes are essential. We are very grateful because this is going to help us in our learning.”

Another pupil, Beatrice Ojeme, also commended WOLMEI for the kind gesture. “We appreciate these gifts because we know the country we are in, that things are not easy, so for them to give us these gifts, they have tried. We pray that God will bless Women of Like Minds Empowerment Initiative.
