The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, has stressed that women are the bedrock of development worldwide.
She challenged women to maximise their potential and unite their families and communities for the overall development of society, noting that community development comes with peace and unity.
Lady Ekomaro stated this during the 2025 August meeting of the Umunoha People’s Assembly Women’s Wing Abroad, which was held at the group’s multipurpose hall, Orieamaigwe, Umunoha, in the Mbaitoli local government area of the state.
The Deputy Governor, represented by the Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Charles Uzopuo, urged the women to exert their force and initiative in the community, bringing other women, especially those residing in the village, together to cross-pollinate developmental ideas.
She also urged them to be caring mothers, good wives, and women to be reckoned with in society. She stressed that they continue supporting the governor and government of Imo State and assured them that the Nwaorieubi—Ukwuorji road is on the verge of construction.
“The Governor of Imo state, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, is a compassionate and women-friendly Governor, who has given women a voice through the choice of a woman as the Deputy Governor, appointment of women as Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and head of agencies and parastatals.
“He has supported and empowered Imo women in no small measure and deserves our maximum support.
“His wife, the Imo First Lady, Her Excellency Chief (Barr). Chioma Uzodimma is also a caring and amazing woman of substance, who has supported Imo women through many empowerment initiatives.
“Let us remember her and the entire first family, without forgetting the State Government in our prayers”, the Deputy Governor stated.
Speaking, the National President of the Women’s group, Mrs. Rita Amaeze, thanked the Deputy Governor for always standing firm with them. She also expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for the laudable road projects in the state and prayed for him to extend the same to their roads, especially the Nwaorieubi—Ukwuorji road.
The annual event, which gathered all Umunoha Progressive women abroad from their various branches—Owerri, Aba, Portharcourt, Onitsha, Enugu, Lagos, Abuja, Cameroun and others from the diaspora, including the United States and UK—featured lectures, singing, dancing, and award presentations.
The occasion also attracted prominent dignitaries from within and outside the community, including Nze (Barr). Benbela Madubuko, Chief Chidi Egbuchulam and Barr. Angus Mgbemere.
