Head of Content and West Africa Channels, Multichoice, Dr Busola Tejumola, has said data on content consumption indicates women don’t only watch romance dramas but other genres of entertainment – including action, thrillers, sports, WWE, UFC, and animation films.

Tejumola, who spoke at panel Women In Film: Community Over Competition, at the ongoing Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) ,further revealed that the portrayal of women in reality TV is a reflection of what happens in real life.

She, however, noted that the industry can set agenda with the portrayal of more positive female protagonists and characters to shape the narratives viewers want to see onscreen.

“Reality TV is a reflection of real life, with elements of truth. It is crucial for the industry to consider what narratives they want to promote, like the portrayal of female leaders and heroes, and start playing key roles in shaping the narratives viewers want to see onscreen,” she said.

Tejumola’s panel featured founder, Raconteur Productions, Nigeria, Chioma Onyenwe; Actress, Film Producer and founder, ROK TV, Mary Njoku; AFRIFF founder, Chioma Ude; Actress and Screenwriter, Uche Jumbo, and the CEO and founder Kemystry, Kem Anyanwu.
