The leader, Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Abia State, Ngozi Nwagur, has organised a workshop for women PWDs on sexual and reproductive health.

Nwaguru told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the event featured presentations on gender-based violence, health and women’s rights, inclusivity of PWDs and confidence building among others.

She expressed appreciation to pupils of the School for the Blind, Afaraukwu, Umuahia North local government area of the state for participating in the workshop, noting that their presence added colour to the event.

“They did very well to boost the programme. They were very proactive. They conducted an interesting debate among themselves and also sang melodiously.

I owe them so much.” she noted.

She said she organised the workshop to encourage the participants to move ahead with their dreams.

“The workshop was organised in the spirit of the saying that there is ability in disability and no disability in ability,” said Nwaguru, “as I on my part have resolved to live beyond my disability.”

She added that it afforded them a forum to interact, enjoy themselves, share their life experiences and exchange ideas on how to move ahead with their disabilities.

Nwaguru, who lauded the organisers “for remembering us” stressed that the future editions of the should be all encompassing and not limited to the  couples “in the very spirit of the occasion”.

In an address earlier, the coordinator of Compassion Connectors Nigeria, the country’s chapter of the coalition, Uwalaka Uchechukwu, said the event was meant to give the couples a sense of belonging.

Uwalaka further said the coalition is working toward building a society where people and the planet are cared for and valued which he said is the reason for their coming up with the event.
