The Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni (Chiroman Gujba) has called on the council on health to key into his administration’s drive attain universal health coverage initiative within the shortage possible period.
Buni, according to a statement issued by the press secretary to the deputy governor, Hussain Mai Sule, made the call while declaring open the first ever Yobe State Council on Health meeting in Damaturu, the state capital.
The governor represented by his deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune), expressed hope that the meeting would among other things deliberate on measures that would facilitate effective implementation of matters related to the full realisation of the universal healthcare coverage programme across the state.
He said the government had recorded significant success towards attainment of the state goals in ensuring the establishment of a functional primary Health Care center in each of the 178 wards in addition to the provision of medical equipment, professional staff among others.
Buni described the theme of the event “Toward accelerating attainment of Universal Health Coverage” as apt, adding that the topic was in line with the consistent objective of the state for attaining the goal.
He urged the participants to come up with formidable health care policies and recommendations that would assist the state government for further improvement in the health sector.
The governor commended the dedication and hard work of the leadership and staff of the ministry of health and primary Health Care Board towards the provision of qualitative preventive, and curative services at all levels of health care to the people of state.
The commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Mohammad Lawan Gana, while speaking said the meeting, which originated from the National Council on Health resolution, was meant to discuss issues regarding health matters.
Gana stated that due to the support and encouragement from the Yobe State government, the state healthcare was placed as one of the best in the country.
