The main gate of the Benue State High Court complex in Makurdi was yesterday barricaded while security personnel and men of the state security outfit, Operarion Anyam Nyor, kept vigil.
Our correspondent who visited the court premises gathered that the development may be connected to the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged removal of the chief judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, by the House of Assembly on Tuesday.
A source who does not want his name in print said, “I think the entrance was blocked with sharp sand because the Ministry of Works and Housing had begun renovations on the court complex.”
He stated that the presence of the security officers at the complex was to maintain law and order.
A judiciary staff member said security personnel early Wednesday came with some civilians and locked the gate and after some hours tippers started bringing sand and all the staff rushed out of the premises.
