Following the International Day for the Girl Child celebrated on October 11, the Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative (YOPCODI) hosted rural schoolgirls from communities in Bursari and Nangere local government areas in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital for the commemoration of the day.
The YOPCODI’s programme manager, Ali Gambo Tarbutu, while speaking during the event said they decided to bring the girls into Damaturu to help them interact with their counterparts in the urban areas among other part of the state for exposure and sense of belonging.
Tarbutu said the day declared by the United Nations with the theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Wellbeing” was meant to advocate for full spectrum of Girls’ Rights.
He further said; “All like-minded partners must center girls’ right in their work to tackle the pushback against gender inequality.
“YOPCODI with funding from ActionAid Nigeria has today invited Girls accompanied by Community Facilitators from each of the four (4) LRP communities (Bayamari and Tarbutu; Garin Gunja and Tudun Wada) in Bursari and Nangere LGAs respectively.
“This is to commemorate the 2023 IDG with a theme: Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Wellbeing.”
