Some global leaders, including hundreds of experts, will converge on Abuja on December 8, 2023, to begin a day-long 5th World Youth Peace, Security and Economic Development Summit.
The summit organised by the West African Youth Peace Mission (WAYPEM) will bring participants from different countries and backgrounds, who will share their experiences, perspectives, and recommendations on how to strengthen the peace, security and economic agenda at the local, national, regional, and global levels.
The summit themed, “Youth and Peaceful Economic Development”, would among others serve as a reference point for West African youths and a forum for exchanging ideas, promoting individual talents, protecting the dignity of the common race, enhancing economic and health development and campaign for dialogue as best means to resolve crises among others.
At a briefing with journalists in Abuja yesterday to herald the event, the mission president WAYPEM, Prince Godswill disclosed that global leaders from across the globe would be honoured with awards of excellence, peace and development.
He said it remains in the organisation’s cardinal beliefs and objectives that peace is promoted and enhanced when deserving persons are duly honoured for their good works.
On the rationale for the summit, he said, “It is very pertinent to state that in today’s world, events have clearly shown that it is no longer true that we must fight to have peace. Indeed, the losses to humanity in wars have made it imperative for a new thinking that would advance the frontier of peace through dialogue.”
