WSDGsO Appoints New Leaders For Sustainable Devt In China

The World Sustainable Development Goals Organisation (WSDGsO) has appointed His Excellency Liu Weijun as Country Representative for China and H.E. Akanno Collins Chinedu as Deputy Country Representative. The organisation aims to accelerate the global implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Effective 30 December 2024, these appointments underscore WSDGsO’s commitment to promoting sustainable transformation and inclusive development in China, a key global player.
In his acceptance speech, H.E. Liu Weijun expressed his gratitude for the role and pledged to dedicate his four-year term to advancing the organisation’s five core pillars: Touching Lives, Transforming Societies, Healing Souls, Uniting Nations, and Changing the World.

The organisation stated, “In an era of urgent global challenges like climate change, poverty, and inequality, strong leadership in sustainable development is crucial. “

The leadership of H.E. Liu and H.E. Akanno will be vital in driving the SDG agenda in China and inspiring similar actions worldwide.

Key focuses of Liu’s role include aligning China’s national policies with the SDGs, showcasing the nation’s innovations on international platforms, and encouraging other countries to commit to sustainability.

As the second-largest economy and most populous nation, China plays a critical role in advancing global SDG targets.

WSDGsO anticipates Liu will advocate for policy reforms supporting sustainable practices, especially in climate action, education, and social equity.

Liu is also expected to enhance international collaboration by engaging with other representatives, NGOs, and multilateral organisations to share knowledge and resources for tackling shared sustainability challenges.

Domestically, Liu will address urgent issues such as environmental degradation, socioeconomic disparities, and public health concerns, focusing on improving education access, as highlighted by SDG 4.

“My leadership will aim to build a more inclusive and sustainable China,” Liu stated, committing to embody the values of WSDGsO and effecting measurable change in communities.

H.E. Akanno Collins Chinedu, as Deputy Country Representative, pledged his full support for Liu and a meaningful contribution to the organisation’s mission in China.
