The African Democratic Congress in Yobe State has adopted former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) national commissioner, Barr Kassim Gana Geidam, as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the party’s state secretary, Manu Alhaji Muhammad and made available to journalists in Damaturu.

He said the party adopted Geidam following consultations among stakeholders and aspirants.

Muhammad described Geidam as a seasoned administrator, legal practitioner, former banking executive, INEC commissioner, attorney-general and commissioner for justice, pioneer general manager of Yobe Line and pioneer chairman of Yusufari local government area.

ADC commended other aspirants who stepped down for the consensus candidate, describing their action as a demonstration of loyalty, sacrifice, and commitment to the party’s unity.

It added that Geidam was a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee at the 1994 National Constitutional Conference, which produced the framework for Nigeria’s Constitution.

Geidam is known for promoting unity across diverse ethnic and tribal groups, and he is also a humble, accessible and committed to inclusive governance.

The party urged its supporters and the people of the state to support Geidam ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The ADC leadership dismissed claims by some former members that a planned merger with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for 2027 was being considered.
