Yobe Deputy Governor Assesses Road Washed Away By Flood

The Yobe State Deputy Governor, Hon Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin fune) has paid an assessment and sympathy visit to Jumbam of Tarmuwa local Government where a road linking many LGAs to Damaturu, the state capital was cut off by flood disaster recently.

A statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Mai Sule said Gubana rushed to the scene with a view to ascertain the level of damage for government intervention.

The Deputy has as an interim measure directed the State Ministry of Works to, as a matter of urgency, provide canoes and construct a temporary bridge to help in the movement of the goods and services from across the cutoff communities.

Gubana has, while sympathizing with the affected communities over the unfortunate incident, directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to support the victims with the necessary relief items to cushion their hardship.

The Deputy Governor said that the state government will in partnership with the federal Ministry of Works among other relevant agencies collaborate with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem.

Briefing the Deputy Governor, the Vice Chairman of Tarmuwa local government area, Hajiya Budu Lawan said the road was washed away following a heavy downpour, which lasted for over 13 hours on Friday last week.

Lawan said the damaged road linked about 9 local government areas in the northern and eastern parts of the state and appealed for immediate and temporary measures that will allow the easy movement of goods and services in the area.

The deputy was accompanied for the visit by the member representing Tarmuwa constituency at the state assembly, commissioners of Housing, Transport and energy as well as special advisers to the Governor on political affairs, Basic education, and security matters.

Other members of the entourage were the permanent secretaries of the Ministry of Works, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management as well as director rescue and operations of SEMA.
