The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has said that protecting the lives and properties of the citizens remains his top priority.
The governor stated this when he chaired the emergency state Security meeting on Wednesday, 13/05/2026, at the government house in Damaturu.
His deputy, Alh, represented Governor Buni. Idi Barde Gubana, the security meeting was prompted by recent attacks on army formations across the state, a development he described as a direct threat to regional stability, noting that security agencies must adopt proactive measures to safeguard citizens’ lives and property.
Governor Buni, who charged security agencies to tighten their belts and redouble their efforts to stop all forms of attacks, pointed out that authorities have witnessed a brief period of relative peace.
Governor Mai Mala Buni urged the security agencies to place a major focus on the Geidam, Yunusari, Tarmuwa, and Gujba Local Government Areas, which are identified as frontline areas.
He commended the joint efforts of the military, police, DSS, and local vigilante groups, stressing that public cooperation and timely information are vital to maintaining peace.
Buni also revealed that the security meeting was convened to determine the best way to curtail the attacks and criminal activities.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, said the meeting was aimed at promoting peace, law and order in the state.
He assured people of a hitch-free Sallah celebration, noting that all security agencies are on alert to ensure a peaceful and harmonious celebration.
Speaking on the issues of homicide in Yobe State, the commissioner emphasised that drug abuse is the main cause of all the homicides occurring in the state, pointing out that all security agencies are ready to bring down any drug dealers in the state.
“As I mentioned earlier, we will deal with all drug dealers from the root; most of the acts you checked are caused by drug abuse”.
The CP called on farmers-herders and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to prevent further clashes.
“We will meet with Miyetti Allah and farmer stakeholders to discuss how to bring an end to the farmers-herder clashes in the state”.
He said security will monitor political merger trends, noting that thuggery will not be tolerated as the electioneering campaign approaches.
Usman Kanfani, therefore, urged the citizens of the state to be law-abiding and avoid any activity that would bring them to book.
