Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana informed council members that the governor had directed the suspension of the meeting as a mark of respect and mourning.

“It may be recalled that the Federal Government has declared seven days of mourning, with flags hoisted at half-mast across Nigeria in honour of the fallen president,” he stated.
