The Yobe State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon Abdullahi Bego, said the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni remained determined to revitalize the information sector through provision of required facilities for both broadcast stations and the printing corporation.

Bego stated this when he led the management of the Ministry including Permanent Secretary as well as the Chief Executives of the various agencies under the ministry for the 2025 bilateral budget discussions.
The bilateral discussion, which was chaired by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Hamidu Isa Babi took place at the conference Hall of the SSG’s office, Governor’s Office, Damaturu.

The Commissioner has while speaking during the discussion stressed the need for more financial backing that will help reinvigorate the state’s media outfit especially the State Television (YTV) for better performance.

Bego stated that it is high time for the state to have a standard television house that will not only defend the interest of the people of the state but compete favourably with other TV stations across the country.
He said analysis shows that the equipment of the TV station is absolute to the extent that repairing it is as good as wasting public funds taking into cognisance the modern and portable means of setting and operating a television station.

“If individual organisations and associations can establish, manage and operate modern satellite television stations 24/7, I see no reason why we as a state will continue spending huge sums on old TV technologies that are out of tune with today’s realities.

“It is quite unfortunate that we rely on other stations to air our stories due to their reach, as such we must work towards rejuvenating our media outfits for better wider coverage and services,” Bego stated.

The Commissioner further said plans have reached an advanced stage towards providing digital equipment for the state Printing Corporation while for the state Radio, Yobe Broadcasting Corporation, very soon the signal, especially FM will cover northern part of the state and even beyond.

He used the forum and commended the Ministry of Budget and the Economic Planning for untiring efforts towards ensuring a realistic and people oriented budget proposal.

The Chairman of the discussion, who is also the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Hamidu Isa Babi has while speaking, commended the commissioner for presenting a robust proposal worthy of repositioning the information as well as media organizations of the state assuring of their support for success.
