The Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials procured under the 2024/2025 intervention programme to schools across the state.
The distribution exercise which took place at the Yobe SUBEB Mega Store in Damaturu was aimed at improving access to quality teaching and learning resources in public basic education schools.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Abba Adam Idriss, said the provision of the materials demonstrates the commitment of the Yobe State Government and UBEC to strengthening the education sector and improving learning outcomes across the state.
Prof. Idris urged head teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability in the distribution of the materials to beneficiary schools.
The Executive Chairman of Yobe SUBEB, Umaru Hassan Babayo has while speaking, commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his continued support to the education sector, particularly the recruitment of additional teachers to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in schools.
Babayo appealed to teachers to redouble their efforts in supporting the government’s drive to achieve its educational goals and improve academic performance among pupils.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Digma Maina Gana, urged head teachers to ensure regular attendance of teachers in their respective schools.
He also called on Education Secretaries to intensify supervision and monitoring to promote effective service delivery.
In his remarks, the UBEC Zonal Director, Abdullahi Mohammed Jarma, noted that quality education depends on the availability of appropriate learning tools, competent teachers and motivated learners.
