The Yobe State Government has assured the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) of its readiness to provide accurate and verifiable data for the 2026 National Revenue Audit, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana, gave the assurance while briefing an RMAFC delegation at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government in Damaturu.
According to a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, Shu’aibu Abdullahi, the commissioner said the state would fully cooperate with the commission to ensure a smooth and credible verification exercise.
Dr Gana explained that the audit is aimed at validating data submitted by the state and its 17 local government councils, covering government-funded public primary and secondary schools, including technical, vocational and special institutions.
He added that the exercise would also assess public health facilities across the state, capturing key indicators such as the number of hospital beds and incubators, as well as internally generated revenue figures of both the state and local governments from January 2021 to December 2025.
The commissioner stressed that credible data remains critical to ensuring fairness, equity and objectivity in the nation’s revenue allocation system.
“The exercise is vital to strengthening the integrity of revenue sharing in the country. Accurate data will not only support equitable allocation but also enhance planning and service delivery for the benefit of citizens,” he said.
Dr Gana noted that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni has made significant progress in fiscal discipline, recording near-total implementation of budget proposals between 2021 and 2024.
He assured the delegation of the state’s preparedness to provide all necessary support to guarantee the success of the exercise.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Federal Commissioner representing Sokoto State, Abubakar Wamakko, said the exercise was in line with the commission’s constitutional mandate to periodically review the revenue allocation formula in response to changing national realities.
Wamakko emphasised that Nigeria’s revenue sharing framework depends on credible and up-to-date data to ensure fairness and justice in the distribution of national resources.
He added that the ongoing review of the revenue allocation formula had reached an advanced stage, making the validation of submitted data both timely and critical.
Also speaking, the Federal Commissioner representing Yobe State in RMAFC, Alhaji Modu Aji Juluri, assured stakeholders of the commission’s commitment to ensuring that only accurate and reliable data are utilised in the exercise.
He noted that credible data remains a key driver of good governance and improved socio-economic outcomes.
The meeting was attended by members of the State Executive Council, permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, officials of the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service, and representatives of relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
