Oyo State government has said the attack on the state’s secretariat by self-acclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators is an act of terrorism.

The state’s commissioner for information, Prince Dotun Oyelade said last Saturday’s invasion was a treasonable offence.

The commissioner who disclosed this while granting interviews to journalists condemned the act, saying that there were better ways of agitation other than craving for bloodshed.

He cited the conduct of Prof. Banji Akintoye, a well- known Yoruba nation agitator as representing the quintessential wisdom and civilization of the Yoruba race.

“Attempting to barge into the hallowed chambers of legislature and take it over with an arsenal of seven pump action submachine guns, over 700 live cartridges, is clearly an act of terrorism”, he said.

The commissioner disclosed that sponsors of Saturday’s invasion of the governor’s office and the state House of Assembly have succeeded in misleading them into serious trouble.

Oyelade reiterated that Oyo State remains the most peaceful state in Nigeria, saying Saturday’s incident would not take away that popular belief.

The commissioner noted that normalcy had since returned to Ibadan, the state capital and residents were going about their normal duties.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Police Commissioner, Adebola Hamzat yesterday disclosed that the Yoruba Nation agitators who invaded government secretariat, Ibadan last Saturday will be charges for treasonable felony

The police boss while parading the 21 suspected agitators including a female and two elderly men in their sixties at the police Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan, said they were arrested for their involvements in forceful invasion of government secretariat.

The suspected agitators were arrested by the joint security operatives at the state government secretariat while attempting to take over the state House of Assembly after hoisting the Yoruba Nation flags.

In his address, the state commissioner confirmed the arrest of the 21 suspected agitators and sent a signal to other people that have a criminal mindset to leave the state.
