A non-partisan group dedicated to promoting good governance and democratic values, League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance (LYYAGG), has passed a vote of confidence on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over what it called his transformative activities in the FCT since assuming office as a Minister.

The group noted that Wike’s accomplishments range from the reconstruction of major roads and the digitisation of land administration to actions taken against illegal structures, improvements in land allocations, revitalisation of the health sector, provision of water supply, and the implementation of various people-centric policies in the FCT.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday addressed by President General of LYYAGG, Ambassador Adediwura Adesina, and Secretary General, Comrade Kunle Oyediran, the group also condemned the actions of some individuals who staged a protest against Wike on December 6, 2023, as an attempt to disrupt the Minister’s commendable efforts.

“The League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance Is passing a vote of confidence in Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT). We unequivocally condemn the actions of individuals who staged a rally on December 6th, 2023, as an attempt to disrupt the Minister’s commendable efforts.

“We stand to commend the Minister for his exceptional and transformative leadership, dedicated to instilling order and coherence within the Federal Capital Territory. The League of Yoruba Youths For Advocacy and Good Governance has meticulously observed and acknowledged the Minister’s numerous achievements since assuming office. These accomplishments range from the reconstruction of major roads and the digitization of land administration to actions taken against illegal structures, improvements in land allocations, revitalization of the health sector, provision of water supply, and the implementation of various people-centric policies.

“Moreover, we wish to extend appreciation for the Minister’s unwavering leadership, which has culminated in remarkable development and progress witnessed by the inhabitants of the territory.

“In light of recent events, the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance advises the Minister to remain resolute and focused, disregarding the actions of misguided individuals and counterfeit civil society organizations that orchestrated the rally. We implore the Minister not to entertain frivolous demands that might incite a breakdown of law and order in the FCT.

“We acknowledge the right of civil society organizations and individuals to engage in peaceful protests, the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance firmly asserts that no justifiable cause warrants efforts aimed at destabilizing the hard-earned peace and progress under the Minister’s leadership.

“We once again want to reiterate our steadfast support for the Minister’s pursuit of order and coherence within the FCT, the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance issues a stern warning to any individual or group seeking to exploit civil society organizations for their selfish, unpatriotic political motives. We vow. to take lawful measures to resist any attempt to derail President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renew Hope agenda.

“Many may have issues with the ongoing transformation in the FCT but we stand to say that the ministers working with the master plan befitting of a federal capital territory. Looking at other Federal Capital Territory in the world you will agree with me that FCT is a work in progress to meet up with International standards.

“So that Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory can stand shoulder to shoulder with other capital Cities in the world like, London, Paris, Cairo, Rome, Berlin Addis Ababa, Moscow, Accra and others,” it stated.

The group declared that the LYYAGG remained non-partisan and dedicated to promoting good governance and democratic values, adding that, “we are fervent in our aspiration to ensure Nigeria achieves its full potential and becomes a model state in Africa and globally.”
