Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja (COAS) has told the Nigerian Army’s troops they have the professional skills and capacity to tackle insecurity and defend the country’s territorial integrity.

In a statement signed by the acting assistant director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Atang Solomon, the army chief said Nigeria today boasts of an Army that is “globally reckoned with, victory-focused and understands the underlying spiritual component of fighting power.”

He ascribed the army’s operational successes to God, as conspicuously captured by its motto: “Victory is from God Alone.”

Lagbaja spoke at the commemoration of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2024 at Shadawanka Barracks Bauchi.

He maintained that this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration underscores the Army’s commitment to aligning with the overall policy dynamics underpinning contemporary security and defence management in the country and beyond.

While lauding the troops for their operational doggedness and commitment, General Lagbaja charged them to maintain the highest standards of service and self-discipline.

The COAS, represented by the commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, Brig-Gen Emmanuel Egbe, commended the level of synergy between the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the quest to end insecurity in the country and urged for the sustenance of the friendship.

He asked the troops to continue praying for the repose of the souls of fallen heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty defending Nigeria.

To him, the fallen heroes laid down their lives and sacrificed body parts to defend the territorial integrity of the nation. He pointed out that this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration theme, “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges within a Joint Environment”, highlights the Nigerian Army’s responsibility to promote national unity, integration, and development.
