The Yoruba Youth Sociocultural Association (YYSA) has advocated for support and cooperation for the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade

National President of the association, Olalekan Hammed, who applauded Governor Seyi Makinde over the appointment of the monarch, implored all other aspirants who lobbied but were unable to mount the throne to accept the outcome with sportsmanship spirit and give their unflinching loyalty and support to the new Oba.

“We implore all other contestants who lobbied but unable to mount the throne to accept the outcome with sportsmanship spirit and give their unflinching loyalty and support to the new Oba”, the youth leader said.

According to him the Alaafin’s stool is too significant to be left unoccupied.

“Anybody that is installed as the Alaafin of Oyo is no doubt a face of Yoruba race and its cultural heritage, and that is why competency matters when selecting who becomes the Alaafin of Oyo.

“We believe that Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has what it takes in terms of promotion of culture, contributing positively to the development, peace and unity of Oyo town, Yorubaland and Nigeria at large”, he added.

Canada-based entrepreneur and philanthropist, Prince Owoade, was announced on Friday by the Oyo State Government as the incoming monarch to succeed the Late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.

Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju made the announcement in a statement on Friday.

Earlier, the chairman of the Oyo Global Forum, Mr Taiwo Adebayo had noted that Prince Owoade will occupy the exalted throne of the Yoruba people, a position of immense cultural and historical significance.

“For centuries, Oyo has been a shining example of Yoruba-African civilization and culture. This is the rich legacy Prince Owoade will inherit and defend and we remain optimistic and prayerful that he will excel in his sacred duties, promoting our culture and traditions and leading our people toward greater prosperity and development.

“As a united body of Oyo professionals worldwide, OGF has been a steadfast advocate for peace and development in Oyo for over a decade. We look forward to joining hands with Prince Owoade to drive progress and inclusive growth in our beloved kingdom.”
