A group, the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition (RSEYLC), has accused the chairman, Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Tony Okocha of plotting with others to topple the government of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt and signed by its Chairman, Dr. Legborsi Yamaabana, the coalition vowed that its members will resist any attempt to overturn the current administration Rivers State.
The statement reads in part: “It has come to the attention of the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition, a plot by the acting Chairman of Rivers APC, Chief Tony Okocha alongside his cohorts to orchestrate a civilian coup in Rivers State with the intentions to topple the duly elected government of Sir Sim Fubara.
“We vehemently condemn this nefarious plots to subvert democratic process and destabilize the state.
“We wish to warn Tony Okocha and his accomplices that any attempt to overturn the Government of Rivers State shall be met with swift resistance from Rivers youth leaders,” the statement said.
But, speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, challenged Dr. Yamaabana, to provide evidence to back up his claim of plots to topple Fubara’s government.
The Rivers APC chieftain who said the allegation was not only false, further described it as misleading and called on the people to disregard it in its entirety.
Okocha, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Vincent Gbosi, denied any plot whatsoever to topple or orchestrate a civilian coup in the state.
He said: This statement is in the figment of the imagination of the author. We challenge the author to produce any evidence to back up his false claims.
“The statement is not only false, but totally misleading, and should be disregarded in its entirety,” Chief Okocha said.
