Youths of Ayamelum state constituency in Anambra, State have criticised Governor Charles Soludu and the leadership of the state House of Assembly overthe suspension of the member representing them, Hon. Bernard Udemezue, for three months.
Udemezue was suspended yesterday at the plenary presided over by Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze, following a resolution passed by the House.
The lawmaker was hammered over a message and content he shared on social media which the House described as “damaging contents”.
Udemezue, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, had shared on his social media handles, alleging that his constituency, Ayamelum is marginalised in the area of constituency allowance.
Reacting to the suspension, the leader of Ayamelum youth, Hon. John Udemezue told LEADERSHIP that they were disappointed over the suspension of their lawmaker.
“We are disappointed with the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo because we know that he is the one who engineered the House of Assembly members to suspend our lawmaker.
“We know that the reason why our lawmaker (Hon. Bernard Udemezue) was suspended is because he exposed the rot in the State Assembly. Ayamelum youths are going to react to this sad development very soon,” he said.
Udemezue had in a WhatsApp message he shared in a group mostly populated by his Ayamelum constituents revealed his allowances as a lawmaker and also added that he receives N10million quarterly from the state government for projects in his constituency which did not go down well with his colleagues.
The House described his conduct as ‘unparliamentary’ and recommended that he should not be seen within the Assembly premises for the period of the suspension.
Udemezue who has been on social media calling out the Assembly leadership, insisted that he did nothing wrong as his sole aim of revealing his emoluments was to update his constituents on his stay in the legislative House
