Youths in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of FCT Youth For Good Governance and Sustainable Development (FCT YGG-SD) have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint an FCT minister who will unite the people and promote the Abuja master plan.

The coordinator of FCT YGG-SD, Hon. Muhammad Kabir Abubakar, at a press briefing yesterday, said their call became necessary because they want a political leader who will strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) in FCT and chart ways for the party’s performance and victory in the future elections.

Congratulating the president and his vice on their inauguration, the group advocated for the establishment of additional mandate secretariats to accommodate political stakeholders from six FCT area councils and others from six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

They further condemned any future appointments of members of the APC who allegedly practiced anti-party activities during the just February and March elections and worked against the success of the APC in the FCT.

“On January 5, 2023, the leadership of this organisation wrote an official letter addressed to the National Chairman of our great party the APC, Sen. Dr. Abdullahi Adamu and we copied the APC Zonal Vice Chairman North Central, APC Zonal Secretary North Central, the immediate past Minister of FCT and  Minister of State FCT, APC Presidential Campaign Council, among others

“To notify them of the anti-party activities of Hon. Abdullahi Candido, former chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and immediate past Mandate Secretary Transportation, FCTA. Investigation and finding were not conducted to that effect, his attention was never drawn to our protest letter, and that allowed him to do more harm to APC during the 2023 Presidential election held on February 25, 2023.

“Surprisingly, leadership and members of this group were reliably informed that the CV of Hon. Candido is one among others to be considered for Ministerial appointment or any other appointment in the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. If this becomes true, members of APC in FCT most to believe that the only language APC leadership understands better is anti-party activity,” he said.

He further said that this will surely reduce the morale and contribution spirit of most of their serious-minded APC stakeholders in FCT and give reason to many APC members that anti-party activities are a serious business and it pays with a big reward, saying that political appointment and reward should be done based on political participation and political patronage, not because of political pressure.
