Bauchi State Executive Council has approved the immediate purchase of 30 additional vehicles for the state-owned Yankari Transport Company, which will provide affordable transportation services to citizens ahead of the forthcoming Yuletide Season.
In 2023, the state government procured 30 18-seater buses at the cost of N16 million each. The move is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s transportation system and boost internally generated revenue.
The commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Titus Ketkuka, disclosed this when he briefed Government House correspondents in Bauchi.
He explained that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving citizens’ mobility and enhancing the transport company’s operational capacity.
Prof. Ketkuka stated that the approval covers procuring 25 new 18-seater buses and 5 saloon cars.
According to him, the vehicles will be deployed to expand Yankari Transport Company’s fleet, thereby increasing its ability to serve more routes efficiently and provide safer, more reliable services to commuters across the state.
He further noted that the initiative is expected to boost the company’s revenue generation and contribute significantly to the state’s economy.
“This investment is not just about improving transportation; it is a strategic step towards ensuring financial sustainability and creating more job opportunities for our people,” the commissioner added.
