The Zakkat and Alms Committee of Dass Emirate in Bauchi State has distributed assorted food grains to vulnerable families and the needy in a strategic move to reduce hardship in line with the teaching of Islam.

Our correspondent reports that Alms, a mandatory donation of a portion of a Muslim wealth monetary and non-monetary, is a sine-qua-non pillar of Islam. Wealthy Muslims are required to give 2.5 percent of their liquid wealth to the poor, the needy as Zakkat.

About 100 vulnerable and poor families received the Zakkat, including rice and maize collected from farmers across Bununu Central.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP in Bauchi, the chairman of the committee, Mustapha Ahmad Sa’in Dass, reminded wealthy individuals that Zakkat is one of the five pillars of Islam that must be fulfilled.

Sa’i said Zakkat is a mandatory charity that is given to the poor to create a more balanced society.

He added that the rationale behind giving out Zakka is also to alleviate poverty and ensure social justice by distributing wealth from the rich to the poor people.
