Zamfara State government has approved a plan to provide 36,176 residents with shares in Dangote Group as part of efforts to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
The commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Relief Matters, Salisu Musa Tsafe Kainuwa, said yesterday that the initiative was designed to enable the residents to participate in investment opportunities and benefit from the nation’s capital market.
Under the programme, each beneficiary is expected to receive approximately 20 shares through the Dangote Initial Public Offering (IPO), in collaboration with the state ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and Finance, as well as the Zamfara Investment Company.
According to the ministry, the beneficiaries will be drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state, with 2,261 beneficiaries allocated to each of 13 LGAs, while Gusau, the state capital, will have 4,522 beneficiaries.
The ministry said the programme would accommodate persons with disabilities to ensure inclusiveness, adding that the initiative was approved by Governor Dauda Lawal to expand access to investment opportunities and promote financial independence.
The state government said the investment scheme forms part of its broader humanitarian and economic empowerment agenda, with additional programmes targeting women and young people expected to be announced.
