Zamfara State Commissioner for Health, Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, and Officers of the World Health Organisation met with Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) to improve tracking of meningitis and other diseases.
Maradun, who raised concerns about recent meningitis cases, said accurate and timely data are important for the government’s quick response.
She warned that poor data can lead to wrong decisions and weak responses, tasking DSNOs to improve how they collect, report, and record data, especially in affected areas, to support government decision-making.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, was represented by the Permanent Rilwanu Musa Zurmi during the meeting.
The LGA DSNOs praised WHO for its reliable monthly support, which has enhanced their ability to detect and respond quickly to public health threats, improved coordination, and ensured accurate reporting vital for informed government decision making.
