A coalition of women’s groups in Zamfara State has declared support for Governor Dauda Lawal’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.

The endorsement was made in Gusau during a reception organised by Women for Women in honour of Hajiya Fatima Umar Aliyu Shinkafi, Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the APC Women Elders Committee, Hajiya Ai Maradun, said women across the state had resolved to back Governor Lawal for a second term, citing his performance in office.

She added, however, that after completing two terms, the state should consider supporting a female candidate, specifically Hajiya Fatima Shinkafi, for the governorship position.

According to the organisers, the reception was held to appreciate Shinkafi’s humanitarian efforts, particularly her support for women and vulnerable groups in Zamfara.

Following the event, Shinkafi distributed over 10,000 wrappers alongside cash donations to women across the state. She explained that the gesture was part of her continued commitment to assisting the poor and less privileged.

In her remarks, the First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, commended Shinkafi’s initiative, noting that such efforts complement the government’s programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable populations.
