Indigenous rap star and Zanku pioneer, Zlatan Ibile, has shared a surprising story of family scepticism, revealing that his parents once doubted the legitimacy of his wealth when he attempted to gift them a house in 2019.
Speaking during an appearance on the YACN podcast, the rapper recalled the moment he tried to surprise his parents with a multi-million-naira property in the upscale Lekki neighbourhood of Lagos. Instead of immediate celebration, he was met with a barrage of questions regarding his source of income.
“When I blew up in 2019, I bought my first house in Lekki and decided to gift it to my parents,” Zlatan shared. “They were like, ‘A house? That’s not possible. Are you doing something else apart from music? How did you buy a house worth millions in the space of one year?”
The rapper admitted he was deeply hurt by their suspicion, especially as he had prioritised their comfort. His parents even requested time to pray and investigate if he was involved in any illicit activities. To clear his name and ease their worries, Zlatan revealed he had to present his bank statements and evidence of his music earnings to prove his success was genuine.
