Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for discontinuing the subvention to political parties which it said is affecting a level playing field for all the political parties.

Delta State chairman of ZLP, Mr Emeka Nkwoala, who stated this at the weekend in Asaba during the state congress of the party for the election of delegates for its national convention, lamented why INEC stopped the practice.

“They need to provide an enabling environment for all parties as a matter of urgency to promote a multi-party system for a healthy democracy.

“As of today, most big political parties have elected persons who support their various parties with resources while small parties like ours do not have such luxuries,” Nkwoala stated.

While lamenting the high rate of tokenism among political supporters and Nigerians, he maintained that the discussion for political permutations for 2027 is unnecessary as the leaders elected by the masses in the 2023 general elections are yet to fulfil their promises to the people.

“I am not happy when I hear people talk about 2027 elections because it is less than two years that we elected new leaders but we are not holding them accountable instead we are talking about another election.

“They must be held accountable for the tenure for which they were elected. We must engage them to ensure that those elected fulfil their campaign promises within the tenure they were elected for. Afterwards, there would be a review before the next election to consider if they deserve to be re-elected into office.”

“The people need to interrogate political office holders at various levels because they are getting more money from the federation account, so we must see what they are using it for,” he said.
