Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum has opened a zonal office for the Department of Monitoring, Evaluation and Special Project in Bama town, as part of efforts to facilitate the commencement of the next phase of rebuilding efforts.
Zulum announced this yesterday at the Shehu of Bama ‘s palace during a visit to the royal father as part of his one day working visit to the community.
Zonal offices for the department of monitoring, evaluation and special projects under the governor’s office had been established in Biu and Monguno for southern and Northern Borno with the one in Maiduguri to serve as the state head office, especially for the purpose of speeding up the reconstruction of destroyed communities.
The proposed office to be established in Bama is to serve as a zonal centre for local government areas in Borno central benefitting from the proposed new phase of the rebuilding process.
Governor Zulum informed the Shehu of Bama, Umar Ibn Kyari Ibrahim Elkanemi that the state government intends to commence rebuilding work on residential structures in Bama that were not rebuilt in the previous exercise and that after the ongoing project in Nguro Soye, the state government in collaboration with the military will also resettle communities such as Maimti, Aulari Mankellumuri, Darajamal Kumshe and Tarmuwa .
The governor expressed plans to erect 1,000 tents in Nguro Soye to enable people to resettle in their community and further reiterated commitment to close down remaining IDPs camps to enable people return to normal lives .
He expressed gratitude to the Shehu of Bama for the hospitality and for living among his people in Bama which he said has encouraged other citizens to come back home.
While in Bama, Zulum had a closed-door discussion with the leadership of the Army formation based there, and inspected ongoing construction of Maiduguri-Bama Road where he commended the quality of work done and directed construction of shoulders on the highway.
PTDA Urges FRSC To Check Road Accidents
Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association (PTDA), Kaduna State Branch has called on Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), to take necessary actions against the Jaji’s bridge along Kaduna-Zaria Road that causes many deaths of travellers.
The Kaduna State chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna made the call yesterday during an interview with journalists in the state.
Haruna advised the State Traffic Laws Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA), that works within Kaduna metropolis to sanction those tankers found loading human beings on top of the tanker in order to save lives of passengers particularly at Jaji bridge, he added.
He lamented that the community of Jaji had to always come out to alert the drivers of the danger on the said bridge but still many lost their lives on a daily basis.
He also appealed to road agencies to ensure that the speed of drivers is minimised and also arrest any driver that allow under age to drive during Sallah and after to serve as deterrent to others.
The chairman therefore cautioned the drivers to abide by the rules and regulations in order to save more lives.
Similarly, on the recent activities of Rail track vandalization in southern parts of the state, investigation has led to the arrest of two suspects who have confessed, stated their various roles in committing the crime. Suspects arrested are Shazali Ahmed, 35 years and Abba Muhammed, 30 years.
Kano Commissioner Tasks Workers On Sacrifice
Kano State commissioner of information and internal affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye has charged staff of the ministry to be punctual and adhere to the civil service rules and regulations.
The commissioner gave the charge during a maiden Meeting with management staff of the ministry in his office.
Dantiye tasked them to be diligent and alive to their duties in order to attain target objectives of the state government.
He said the present admiration under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusif would not tolerate any act of absenteeism and lateness to duty.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration in the state to ensure the promotion of staff welfare to enhance productivity
Inspecting the various departments and units of the ministry, the commissioner urged the staff to always maintain a clean environment and adhere to proper sanitary regulations.
The commissioner, who was conducted round by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Sani Bashir Yola, assessed the offices and places that need to be rehabilitated by the state government to ensure an enabling working environment.
