A fire outbreak occurred on Friday night at the AIB Petrol Station near Sogiji Hotel in Kofaran, Bauchi, after a fuel tanker caught fire while offloading petrol.
The incident, which around 9pm, triggered panic in the area as flames engulfed parts of the filling station during the incident. As of 11:58pm, the blaze was still raging, with fire service personnel battling to contain and extinguish the inferno.
Witnesses said the fire had been burning for over three hours at the time of filing this report, causing anxiety among residents and motorists.
Our correspondent observed that a nearby garage was thrown into confusion as mechanics hurriedly evacuated vehicles from the premises over fears that the fire could spread to their workshop.
A mechanic working at a car repair shop close to the station, Muslim Baba, told our Correspondent that as of 11:58 p.m. that, “So far, the fire has almost been extinguished, but the fire is still burning.”
The cause of the fire was yet to be disclosed as authorities continued efforts to fully contain the raging fire.
