Luck ran out of five-man armed robbery gang yesterday in Port Harcourt, as one of the vehicles they were escaping with got involved in an accident.

Their vehicle collided with a stationery articulated vehicle, along the Ada George Road in Port Harcourt, leading to the death of one, while two others were critically injured.

An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that the five gunmen had raided a shop along Ada George/Chinda axis of Port Harcourt, that deals on wholesale of sealed engine oil on Wednesday morning.

The eyewitness said as the armed robbers, who came with two vehicles were leaving after successfully loading the engine oils and other valuables into their car, the private security guard, a northerner attached to the warehouse where the sealed engine oil is sold in wholesale, raised the alarm which attracted passerby and the police.

The eyewitness further said that as the armed robbers were driving, on sighting the police patrol van that was giving them a hot chase, they tried to use alternative route by passing a road that linked to Rumukokwu from Ada George Road in Port Harcourt, when they rammed into a stationery articulated vehicle.

A video seen by LEADERSHIP showed one dead member of the gang on the front seat of the vehicle while two members are lying critically injured on the floor.

Other eyewitnesses said two of the robbers escaped.
