Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, has said 104 out of 4,141 students will graduate with First Class honours during the 33rd convocation of the institution. The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Kehinde made the disclosure when he fielded questions from journalists at the press conference heralding the institution’s convocation.
He also disclosed that the institution is working on a particular technological innovation that will assist the nation’s poultry farmers in overcoming challenges, such as the high cost of feed, and in meeting Nigerians’ protein needs.
Addressing journalists at the press conference, Kehinde, who identified the high cost of maize production as one of the major challenges responsible for the high cost of poultry feeds, disclosed that the university is already training students with a particular technology that will enable them to become feed manufacturers at lower prices, having replaced maize and soya bean production.
“It costs so much to produce maize, and so on, we are trying to replace maize and soya beans and other things, but efforts are on in the animal industry to reduce the cost of maize and others in the feed production”.
Harping on the activities of the 33rd convocation celebration, the Vice Chancellor further disclosed that the institution will be awarding degrees to a total of 1,771 other graduates in the Second-Class Upper Division, with an additional 1,896 in the Second-Class Lower Division, among others.
He said Osianu Joy from the Food Science and Technology Department scored a total CGPA of 4.85 to emerge as the overall best student of the university. Kehinde also said that a total of 285 others will be graduating in the Third Class Degrees Division, while only two graduated with a Pass.
“Graduation day symbolises triumph over challenges, the realisation of dreams, the celebration of resilience, and the beginning of new horizons.
“It gives me great joy to announce that 69 distinguished graduates are successfully completing their studies under the Part-time Degree Programme. The remaining 41 graduates earned the Veterinary Medicine Degree, which is not classified”.
“We proudly release these accomplished individuals into the world as a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, visionary leaders and talented change-makers.
“This joyous occasion transcends academics; it is a vibrant celebration that unites people from diverse backgrounds to honour institutional and individual achievements”.
The VC, however, commended what he described as the “unwavering support: both direct and indirect” of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government for the timely release of funds, which he said has, over the years, been the cornerstone of the institution’s remarkable progress.
“Particularly, we must thank the Visitor to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“His esteemed leadership and unwavering commitment to education continue to inspire and strengthen our resolve to uphold excellence and contribute meaningfully to national development”.
